Err - me too!! I'm intrigued about Ga Ga the comic!
PS. What are your top reads for novice comic geeks? I've got a vintage Phantom collection myself (I wanted to be Diana) but need more recommendations...
I have some suggestions! Graphic novels rather than comics (Jono - how do these fit in?) but here goes...
'Maus' = Amazing. AMAZING! If you are going to read a comic read this one. Won a Pulitzer prize for literature. Really! Will teach you more about the Holocaust than a million boring text books.
Anything by Guy Delise - Love his comic books travelogues. 'Pyongyang' and 'Shenzhen' are awesome.
Just bought 'Genesis' by comic world LEGEND R. Crumb. He's not usually my bag however I loved this. the bible is one crazy book.
And I won't leave out 'The Watchmen'. Genius. Enough said.
'Blankets' is also a good one. A coming of age love story (aww). You have been warned. But seriously - its really good. :-)
Plus anything by Shaun Tan - our own aussie comic guru.
Hey Brittany! The Lady Gaga comic was one of the free ones we were given on May 1st. It wasn't a great read..
Anon - I would suggest hitting your local shop and picking up a few trade paperbacks. These are usually collections of a single story arc in a given series and are a lot easier to get into than weekly or monthly issues.
Arguably there is a distinction between graphic novels and comics. Something like Maus is definitely a graphic novel whereas something like Spider-man is definitely a comic book.
I love them both and I would highly recommend checking out the ones Jo suggested as well as Sandman by Neil Gaiman(Really excellent), DMZ by Brian Wood, Y: The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughn and V for Vendetta by Alan Moore.
If you're looking for more of a superhero selection then maybe try a DC classic like The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. Marvel also has a separate series known as the "Ultimates", written for newbies so they can get into the stories without having to know any of the background.
I could talk about this sort of stuff for ages so I'll probably stop here. Hope I helped!
Man...no one gets Dr Horrible, I went dressed as Dr Horrible to last years' midnight massacre at Freo prison...people though I was Einstein or somethin'
Speaking of comics, a good friend of mine is getting a deadpool tattoo. That's uber geek chick. Might have him help us man the stall at new year WAICON
I don't know about Y: The Last Man. I kinda quit reading it mid way thru it's run. Cool idea. Now, 'The Pro' or 'Crossed' (cause...who doesn't love the zombocalypse)...those were fun reads.
